About Us

Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training & Research Institute (RGNGWTRI) is the training wing of Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), under the aegis of Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India with the vision “Centre of Excellence for Training and Research for Sustainable Development and management of Ground Water Resources of the Country”. Since Inception in 1997 during IXth 5 year plan as India's first exclusive Training Institute in Groundwater studies, RGNGWTRI strive to improve the capacity building of groundwater professionals for sustainable groundwater development & management with participatory approach. As on October 2025, in total 1823 training courses have been organized by RGNGWTRI, to the benefit of 1,21,227 trainees from various allied sectors of groundwater.


Targets for the ongoing AAP 2024 - 25

Total of 120 trainings of various types (Tier I - 50, Tier II - 20 & Tier III - 50) are scheduled during the training calendar 2025 - 26 spanning April 2025 to March 2026.The training programes cover three verticals of capacity building viz, Domain specific trainings, behavioural aspects and functional competencies. The training calendar includes 26 mandatory trainings for Scientific, Ministerial and Engineering cadres of CGWB 24 demand driven trainings for Implementing Agencies and state government agencies,2 international trainings for AARDO countries and 2 trainings marked for Synergy of three Training institutes(RGNGWTRI, NERIWALM & NWA), under Ministry of Jal Shakti
